Oil on Claybord

8x12

Featured in the College of Charleston’s Undergraduate Journal of Literature & Arts: Miscellany XLVI

This painting was one of several paintings I completed for my final portfolio project in my Painting I class. I discovered and perfected the following new techniques while working on this painting:

  • Diluting paint with solvent to create thin, translucent layers (seen in background)

  • Crumpled up brittle paper towel and pressed onto wet paint to create scratchy texture (seen in top third of painting)

  • Used smooth paper towel to smudge/blend oval shapes (stones) into posterior wall

  • Layered paint to create highlight effect on petals
